Happy Birthday Mama! She is seriously my rock. I don't know what I would do without her. I know she is my mom but I think we are getting to the point where she is becoming more of my best friend. I know I can talk to her about anything and she won't judge me. I love her and I am VERY thankful to have such a loving and caring mom.

This weekend was a long, exhausting one and I am still not fully recovered. It was my brother's first race of the season, the second for Trav. Trav also raced Sunday too!

So on Sunday night/last night Trav showed up at my door with a rose and asked me to be his Valentine. We have been together for a little over 3 years now and it's the little things like this that remind me that I am the luckiest girl around to have someone care about and love me just as much as I care about and love them.

Anyways, I hope your weekend was relaxing and you have a wonderful week!

Catching up

Catching up for me means a lot of goodies for you!

I've slacked on sharing my scrapbooking projects with you.

Alas, here they are :)

This past weekend I went to Las Vegas with Trav and his mama for his brother and sister-in-law's baby shower. It also happened to be the mama-to-be's birthday so I made this card to celebrate her.

This tag I whipped up for the baby's gift. Misted, stamped with Jenni Bowlin stamp, added some scraps, washi tape, alpha, button and viola!

[PS: That wood veneer "M"-I think it's my all time fav alpha. Too bad they are a Studio Calico exclusive!]

Also, while we were in Vegas we had to make a Krispy Kreme stop. If you have never had a Krispy Kreme doughnut-you have not lived. Piece of heaven. seriously. Trav and I have been craving a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut for quite awhile now-and mind you were are NOT big donut fans at all! So we got 1/2 a dozen thinking we would each have one and share one and give the rest to family, but we each got a doughnut fresh off the production line and we couldn't let those go to waste-so we added one more doughnut to our total count ;)

[after, we went and picked up Jamba Juice to make ourselves feel a little bit better about the sweets ]

Isn't this the cutest thing ever. The mama-to-be's friend made a diaper cake and that custom name block display

(I can give you her contact info if you want one yourself!)

I created this LO in under 30 minutes and THAT was considered fast for me. I am a VERY slow scrapper! ha and to my amazement this is one of my favorites :)

Bella & Lisy: I scraplifted this LO from Kinsey and her "Pin Addict" LO in the SC gallery.

I am SO excited to show off my New Years mini that I made but I can't until it goes live on the Pretty Little Studio blog-tomorrow. I used mostly their Winter Wonderland collection.

Remember my post about my new apartment? I'm slowly getting it the way I want it. Trav was here to help me move all my stuff back in on monday-wednesday, from being gone over winter break, and he put up the majority of the frames for me. Last night I went to Target to pick up some picture hangy things (thats the correct term, right? ;) ) and some more nails so I could finish my mini gallery wall. I painted the turquoise E with the same paint as the accent wall behind my bed. I made the "LOVE" canvas last night as well. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it came out. Once I get this place in order and put away all my scrapbooking boxes I'll take better pictures and post them here!

First off, less that exciting news to you but very exciting news to me. I got a very important class I was trying to "crash" or add. See, I am RIGHT on track to graduating in the normal 4 years plan and without this class my schedule would have been pushed back a semester! This is a challenge to anyone who is going to a California public school because budget cuts are forcing classes to be cut, making it hard for the students to get the classes they need to graduate. Anyways, I got a class I need and it was imperative that I get that class because it is a prerequisite for future classes. Oh yea, this is my third to last semester-GO ME! I'm a nerd if I say I am excited about every single on of my classes? Nutrition throughout the life span, advanced nutrition, advanced food science, exercise and physiology-I mean COME ON, who wouldn't be excited about all of this ;) No but really, I am ecstatic. Now I'm off to buy books, which I am not ecstatic about haha!

andddd now onto the more exciting news for you and equally exciting news for meee: I am excited to announce that that I will be joining Pretty Little Studio again for the next term! [check out the announcement HERE] Melissa and Mary Jo are such wonderful people to work with and I am excited for this term because there are so many awesome new lines coming out! In the mean time feel free to check out the products they have available now.

Trav's 2011 racing album

**WARNING: VERY Picture heavy**

This album looks nothing like I envisioned it looking, it looks better. This album started as a thought about half way through 2011 when I decided I wanted to make both my brother and boyfriend a scrapbook to commemorate their racing year. I had all the best intentions of finishing pages as the year progressed but alas life got in the way and it came down to the week before Christmas before I kicked it into high gear. I pulled a couple late nights/early mornings trying to finish before Christmas but I decided I’d rather take my time and finish rather than rushing though in time for them to open them up on Christmas day. I ended up presenting Trav his on New Years Eve and Devin has yet to get his-haha!)T hese were no surprise to the boys-they knew from the get go that they were getting Scrapbooks-they just didn’t know what they were going to look like.

For the cover, I laid down a couple coats of basic silver acrylic paint, waited for it to dry and then I used Martha Stewart’s crackle paint, waited for that to dry and then I painted the blue and once that started drying the crackle effect took place. I have never used this paint effect before but I really like how it came out. I also did this same effect on the back side of the album as well.I embellished the front cover with vintage reflector numbers I found at my Local scrapbook shop a year ago. On the inside and backside cover I used a matte mod podge to glue down pieces of woodgrain paper.

I separated the album based on the different series Trav raced: ProKart South, Streets of Lancaster and ProTour.

Each page, with the exception of the main title page, is 6 x 6.

For each ProKart South race, I made a title page, a page to display Practice and Qualifying and another page to display Heat 1 and Heat 2 and the last page in each is dedicated to the main event. The flag like “P”, “Q”, “H1” and “H2” correspond to Practice, Qualifying, Heat 1 and Heat 2 respectively. Underneath each flap has stats on that run or the place they finished.

For each race in the album I made envelopes to house articles written about the race, personal press releases and any additional pictures. On the front of each envelope I posted a picture of the track/trackmap.

There were a couple places in the album where I wanted to display multiple pictures, so I decided to make an accordion style mini album. Once was for Trav’s graduation party we had at the track, one was dedicated to the late Dan Wheldon and his tie to the Supernats and karting and the last was random pictures taken at the Super Nationals.

This album took a tremendous amount of time, effort and energy. I plan on documenting my boys’ racing years this year but the layout is going to be MUCH more simple and I’m think of going hybrid and channeling Ali Edwards for it too.

I know I just went over the basics so if you have ANY questions, please feel free to ask and I’ll be sure to answer them.

Jingle Bells Blog Hop!

December 1st already?! What better way to welcome December and the holiday's than a blog hop!

Scrappy goodness

Hey all, it has been REALLY hectic over here these last few weeks with school and family obligations. I have some Pretty Little Studio projects I have been working on that I want to share with you!

I told myself I wasn't going to do a December Daily this year but when I got the Jingle Bells Collection I fell in love and couldn't resist! Seriously, everything is FABULOUS and PERFECT for a December Daily! They have a lot of journaling cards and tiny accents that would make the perfect final touch to your DD! Rest in Peace, Dan Wheldon

I can not begin to express the rush of emotions that I have felt in this past 24 hours over Dan Wheldon's death.

You may or may not know that my brother and boyfriend both race go-karts and have, on occasion, raced and tested bigger cars. Not to mention the countless friends and acquaintances I have made through the sport. I consider my racing friends some of the best friends I have ever had and my heart aches for every single one of them because I can't even begin to image the pain they are going through.

Travis was there at the Indy Car finale in Las Vegas this weekend. Trav races go-karts, and is really good friends, with Buddy Rice, who races Indy Cars. Trav spent Sunday with Buddy and his team. He gave me updates as the tragic situation was unfolding sooner than the TV could. As soon as the crash happened I immediately thought of Buddy, because he too was in the wreck. Travis informed me he was ok physically but not very stable emotionally because Buddy was close friends with Dan. I got the word of Dan's passing and was tearing up before they aired the announcement.

Dan was a big part of go-karting and whenever he could, would race a go-kart race. In fact, he was scheduled to race the supernats next month.

Both my brother and Trav have had the pleasure and honor to have raced along side him.

Dan's death really hits home because he was so involved in the karting community and because he is a race car driver like my brother and boyfriend and so many other people I know. I can't believe the overwhelming emotions of the racing community. It is truly unreal how big of a family the racing community really is.

Never hold back on saying "I love you"

Never refuse a hug

Never take for granted what you have and who you have in your life because life is too short.

Below are just some of the things said about Dan, via Facebook, by some of my friends who race:

as driver's we understand the risk, but we still feel immortal. days like today, when reality sinks in, makes me question all of our sanity. RIP Dan Wheldon.

Cannot believe Dan is gone. I'm so lucky to have met and spent time with him. The true definition of a phenomenal driver on AND off the track. I will forever cherish the entire day I got to spend with you at IMS driving my Star Mazda car. RIP Dan Wheldon

Racing is unlike any other sport we do it for that high. The speed the split second decisions. Everything happening in the blink of an eye. But in that same blink of an eye everything can go wrong. Some of those split second decisions can be life or death we never have time to think just act. RIP Dan Wheldon

My deepest condolences go out to Dan's wife, two young son's, family and friends.

The racing world has lost a legend and will never be the same, rest in peace Mr. Wheldon.

It has been awhile since I got to sit down and do some damage to the SC kits piling up in the corner of my living room! For most, this is a typical day-2 cards and a LO, but this was spread out over 2 evenings! School has been keeping me very busy! I'm glad I got to make a tiny dent in my stash!

Say what?! Pumpkin snicker-doodle cookies! I've been seeing all things "pumpkin" flavored popping up on Pinterest as of late.

Yes, Fall has arrived (at least on the calendar anyways-not so much here in Southern California) and I couldn't be more excited to whip out my boots and scarves! Yesterday I picked up some pumpkin pie spice at Trader Joe's! I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet but when I do, I'll let you know!

I think I have found my future chandelier! I love how it's paired with a rustic wooden table. It's fun to dream about a perfect home, sigh-someday!

Maybe it's the far off desire to be a wedding planner or just maybe it's just the me-being-a-girl thing but I'm a sucker for anything wedding related. I think this cake is gorgeous! The color, texture and pattern are all perfect!

Call me a health food nut but I think this Trail Mix bar is freakin' AWESOME!

Such a great idea to the traditional "candy bar"!

Remind me to start one of these next year, okay?

I think it would be really cool, even if you just had one notecard for every week.

You could even "file" away pictures!

A neat alternative (and a WHOLE lot simpler) to Project life ! You could even use one of these to help with Project life so you don't have to worry about falling behind and what not!

Between school and personal life lets just say it hasn't been THE BEST week. Although, I did get to volunteer at FNCE (food and nutrition conference and expo) on Friday! I have the option to go back and see speakers speak and roam the expo but I am up to my eyeballs studying to all the tests/quizzes I have next week!

Mini album

Awhile ago I won a little giveaway that the lovely Stephanie Howell hosted, giving away all her past Studio Calico papers and embellishments. There were AT LEAST 100 patterned papers, a couple exclusive stamps, fabribs, rubons and SO much more! Anyways, I put this mini together using some of those papers that were my goodie bag!

Before really knowing what I was going to do, I cut a bunch of 6"x6" papers and didn't think too much about the binding part of the albums. I took two of the 6"x6" papers and connected them via a piece of fabrib and then used coptic binding to bind all my mini pages together. I actually love the way it came out!

[The pictures might not be the best quality, I was in a rush to take pictures so I can take the album home to show my mama and family!]

No more food pyramid?

Now, it's the "Food Plate." I just became aware of this Monday while sitting in one of my nutrition classes and then I got an e-mail today from the ADA with an article about this new change. I haven't looked at this in too much detail yet but it seems a lot easier to use and follow than the traditional food pyramid.

My life

It's been a little quiet lately but I have been a BUSY BEE running around trying to adjust to this new schedule of mine since school started up again! Here's a couple pictures of whats been goin on in my crazy life!

Count the number of college degrees in this picture. Yep, you counted right there is THREE of them. Trav earned ALL of them! I couldn't be more proud of him! He's not done going to school either! He is off to Cal Poly Pomona this semester! EEE, I got me a winner :)

The other weekend was my youngest cousin's 1st birthday and my crafty aunt set up a photobooth since the theme was "vintage circus." We all had TOO much fun taking pictures!

First Pumpkin Spice latte of the season baby! I HAD to get one when they debuted this fall! Even though the weather still feels as though I should be on summer break, I can't wait for fall to be here :)

I have a secret obsession with ice cream. Preferably anything cake batter. I can usually only get cake batter at Coldstone's but I was OVER THE MOON when I found this ben and jerry's flavor while shopping the other day! My life is complete ;)

PS: I am in love with cake batter and graham cracker "dust" at Coldstones ;)

Thats what Trav likes to call it-dust! he is a HOOT!

Eventhough school started a couple weeks ago, Trav and I had a couple hours to waste, so we spent them at the beach.

This past weekend was my grandmother's birthday and I was in charge of making Snickerdoodle cookies for anyone who didn't want the chocolate or orange cake. I recruited Trav and my cousin to help me out and I bet you can't figure out which cookie is Travis' ;)

First day of school outfit! About half way through the semester I usually stop dressing up and start wearing yoga pants haha!

Everything is an adventure with Mr. Lowe. We ran to Target to grab some avocados and Birthday cards before my grandma's shindig and Travis decided he needed a cart to push around the store and once we got the avocados he decided they needed to be buckled in for safety. Oh how I love him!

Yes, this is another 9/11 post but today

I am remembering all those heros who lost their lives 10 years ago today.

I am remembering all the families and friends of those who were lost.

I am remembering all those who have lost their lives since then fighting for my freedom and protection and those who continue to fight.

I think I am a little more sentimental because my "baby" brother has been talking to Navy and Coast Guard recruiters lately. After high school his plan is to join the armed forces and I couldn't be any more proud of him for the decision he is making.

Even though today this all hits me a little bit more, I am always remembering everything that has happened and everything all the men and women do for my freedom and protection.

I am proud to say I am an American.

In honor of Tessa's [owner of Precocious Paper] 30th birthday, she asked me to partake in her "Birthday Blog hop"! I have always admired her beautifully, hand made embellishments and was over-the-moon when I was asked to help her celebrate by participating in her Birthday Blog hop.

I could hardly wait for my package of goodies to make it my way! I had so much fun playing with everything that I made THREE projects and still have goodies left over to play with!

I got a mini version of the July Sampler:

For my first project I created a "mini book" of all the cards I received on my last birthday. I got the idea for this first project HERE, on pinterest of course ;) All I had to do was punch holes in all my cards and create a cover for it all! Tessa's flower was the perfect embellishment for the cover! This was a really easy project to create and it is something I will cherish forever.

I figured since we are celebrating Tessa's 30th birthday, I should whip up a Birthday card! I disassembled one of the mini felt flowers and laid it out flat to get the pink scalloped edge. I also used one of her beautiful rolled fabric flowers as the center piece to the card.

Lastly, I created this layout of me and my two younger cousins. I ended up using Precocious Paper metallic leaves as embellishments on this Layout.

Dietary tips!

Recently, I received my ADA (American Dietetic Association) membership and this morning I got an e-mail from the ADA with a bunch of links to various articles and studies that are out right now. Here are a few that I found interesting and I thought I would pass them along to you!

Give kids a good morning with a happy, healthy breakfast

-There are tips on what is best to drink, what food groups are best and why.

-There are some quick breakfast tips at the very bottom of the article.

-These aren't JUST for kids-adults can take these into consideration, too!

Women who take vitamins have fewer premies

-They don't recommend taking normal multivitamins while pregnant but suggests that the women who were regularly taking them around the time they did get pregnant had less of a chance of complications.

-Of course, a good diet high in folic acid and good nutrition helps, too ;)

4 lifestyle factors tied to a longer life

-You could probably guess the 4 factors without looking at the article but a little reassurance to know your doing the right things is always nice!

-EXERCISE: it's one of the factors and I can't stress it ENOUGH! It is one of the major, MAJOR factors in preventing many diseases and you also feel great after a nice gym sesh!

Dieting women may lose bone mass

-If you are on a 'Diet,' and you are a woman check this article out.

1. I hate the word 'diet,' if you are going to start eating healthier I think it should be a life style change, not a one-month-until-I-lose-what-I-want-to-diet type thing. butttt I'll get into that in another post

2. Women are more at risk for osteoporosis than men are. So, ladies take caution!

Safe lunches

-This is a short article-accompanied by a video-with a few tips on how to keep your kids (and your lunches) safe once they leave the house.

I just recently moved apartments-again. third time in two years. I hope it's just a college-kid thing and all this moving will stop once I settle down some day, HA! Anyways, here are a few quick pics of the new place. It's a 400 sq ft studio with laundry! I really could care less how small the place is as long as it has laundry in the unit! It's funny how priorities change as you "age." I plan to write a post about DIY's and inspiration for the bits and pieces of my room soon!

Oh yea, you see that fancy bed? My wonderful boyfriend and his left hand man for the moving day (my brother) put that bed together. We didn't finish it until well into the night but it was SO worth it. It is very comfy :)

COLORADO OR BUST

This past weekend/week we pilled in the motor home (nicknamed "big turd" after the moho in the Robin Williams movie RV) and road-tripped it up to Colorado! I have never been to Colorado, so I was really excited for this trip! Of course, the only reason we ever go anywhere is because of the Racing schedule, which is okie dokie with me because we would probably never go anywhere if it wasn't for racing. So this past weekend my boys competed in the SKUSA ProTour Summer nationals-there were people from all over the country competing and it was a roller-coaster of a weekend! Needless to say, Trav finished 3rd on Saturday and 4th on Sunday. Dev finished 6th on Saturday and 5th on Sunday. I am SO VERY proud of my boys because they had to overcome many obstacles and work hard for those finishes!

After racing was done we went to Utah because Nanny has always wanted to see Bryce canyon! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! I already told Trav were coming back and maybe go on some of the hikes! If you haven't had the chance of seeing Bryce canyon, you need to put it on your to-do list!

4th of July treats

For the fourth of July this year, my family gathered at my aunt and uncles house to swim and BBQ! I, along with my little helpers (Trav and Justin) whipped up these patriotic treats in like 30-45 minutes. Easy peasy!

After the fireworks were all done, the boys decided it would be fun to express their inner girls and dress up the barbie dolls laying around ;) It made for some great entertainment for the night :)

After their fashion show, we all played apples to apples. FUNNIEST.GAME.EVER. why didn't I know about this game before?!

Healthy but Yummy snacks

Today on Yahoo! I saw this article claiming to have "The best-tasting-diet-friendly-snack foods." I'm not a big "chip" eater as it is but it was interesting to read as article some one else put together about these "diet" snacks. I have tried a few of these and can say I really enjoyed them. It wasn't one of those I'll-force-myself-to-eat-it-because-I-need-to things.

If you are a big chip snacker I would HIGHLY recommend making a switch to these babies. SO much more delicious than a chip and they don't leave you feeling guilty after ;)

I HIGHLY recommend the Salt and Pepper Baked Kettle chips. Actually, when I do eat chips I always go for Kettle (Baked or not). They are all composed of natural ingredients and aren't packed full of grease and salt!

These are relatively new to hit the shelves of grocery stores and I have tried the sour cream and onion ones and found them to be delicious as well!

Of course I advocate (and personally prefer) a healthy apple, some carrots or a handful of nuts over any kind of chip!

Diet Foods?

I don't know how many of you read Yahoo! on a daily basis like me (it's where I get my daily "What's happening in the world"/important news for the day). If you are one of Yahoo's daily readers you know that every once in awhile they have articles about "healthy" foods or new studies on foods that have mystical powers and what not. If there is one thing I have learned so far in my schooling, I have learned to read only articles that are fully researched or have the right evidence to prove their point. Seeing as how Yahoo! is geared more toward the "common man" and not really towards scholars its hard to differentiate between what is real and actually "works" versus what is just phony. Some of the more interesting articles I like to read and find interesting and extremely informative are the ones that are a spin off of the book: Eat this, not that. this article is one of the more recent ones that I came across and it deals with some of the foods we look at and deem a "diet food". Figured it might be worth taking a look-see!

Ok so my birthday was on the 13th anddd I'm STILL waiting (very patiently but anxiously), for THIS to get here! anddd it doesn't help that I got a confirmation that it wasn't going to ship until the middle of April. Hopefully it will go by fast because I am TIRED of waiting! I'm really excited to start messing around with it, and seeing as how I have NO knowledge of Digital SLR's WHAT-SO-EVER, this shall be a very interesting experience :)

Do any of you have a digital SLR? Which one and how do you like it? Do you have any tips?

Weekend in pictures

ok, ok I know its closer to THIS weekend than it is to LAST weekend but I thought it would fun to post my weekend in pictures seeing as how it was a pretty fun weekend. Travis came down to see me on Thursday and we went to a school play I had to go see for one of my classes. I didn't mind because it gave us something new and fun to do! My mom, brother and grandma came down to SD on Sunday to go with me to get one of my birthday presents (I'll show pictures later). We went down town to look at all the Navy ships, seeing as how:

1. My brother wants to join the Navy the second he turns 18 anddd

2. there is a Naval base here in SD.

We went to this cute restaurant right on the bay--too bad it was rainy and cold otherwise it would've made for a much more enjoyable time! It's something I can put on my mental summer to-do list!

When you put us in front of the computer and open photo-booth, you are sure to get 100's of silly pictures and not one serious/normal picture (well, depending on what your definition of "normal is ;)

You may or may not know Im in the second half of my second year as a Foods and Nutrition major over here at SDSU. I know this blog was supposed to be all about my scrapbook and craft creations but I thought it might be fun and informative to start incorporating Food and Nutrition related posts as well!

My first order of business is this:

McDonalds Oatmeal

Oatmeal, one of the best sources of fiber that is readily available to everyone, tasty and versatile! Sounds healthy, right? Wrong! Don't get me wrong, when I first heard about this new 'healthy' option over at the highly disregarded fast food chain I was interested myself! But after reading this article, it was clear to me that all they did was turn this healthy breakfast meal into another bad choice. Just look at the ingredients on the Nutrition Facts and tell me you keep every one of those ingredients in your kitchen and would normally add it to your oatmeal. You might be thinking to yourself, well at least the McDonald's choice is easy and convenient. Ok, come on now-how long does it REALLY take to make a bowl of oatmeal at home? The article previously mentioned debunks the 'Convenient' excuse as well. Even the cost factor doesn't add up. It is considerably cheaper to buy oatmeal at the store than it is to buy it from McDonald's.

Nutrition is one of the hardest aspects of your life to manage and that's why the obesity epidemic of this country [America] has gotten out of hand! The convenience of fast food chains don't help matters at all-so it's up to YOU to make the smart decisions about not only your nutrition and dietary habits but your lifestyle habits as well!

Sigma Nu Burrito LO

This past weekend Travis came down to SD and we went to Trujillos[like every trip he makes down here]. Its THE BEST Mexican food around, unless you take a 15 min drive down to Mexico that is. This time we attempted the Sigma Nu burrito [all of their speciality items are named after Frats and sororities around here]! Its the biggest one they have so we decided to split it first and then next time conquer it ourselves!

I think people are thrown off when I tell them my life revolves around go-karts. Like really, what do you think of when I say "my brother races go-karts?"

Yea I guess they are "technically considered "go-karts" but they don't even start to compare to the speeds, construction or technique of what my boys race.

Supercross in San Diego

What's Supercross you might ask?

This is:

Apparently its only a big thing here on the West Coast [from what I have heard]. Travis and I like to cuddle up and watch it [on Speed channel] so we have become familiar with a lot of the riders and how the whole shin dig works. This year for Valentines day I surprised him with tickets to go to the one in San Diego at Qualcomm stadium [where the Chargers play]!

[Every other vehicle parked in the parking lot was a LIFTED truck!!

Just explains what kind of people flock to these events!]

It was a really fun experience, even if it rained on and off for the duration of the event and made it almost unbearably cold!

There were MANY people smart enough to bring ponchos and/or bundle up like they were going on an excursion to Antarctica!

[unlike us who just had sweatshirts-luckily Trav had an extra one in his car for me to put on over my already many layers packed on]

All in all it was a really fun night and Im glad we got to go, instead of staying home and watching it on the TV- it looks A LOT different in person than it does on the TV!

Present Tags

Okay I know Christmas is long gone but this isn't a Holiday-specific post! It just so happens that the paper used was Christmas themed. Its a pretty quick and efficent way to make adorable gift tags that make your present stand out from the rest!

1. Start by Cutting your paper in a rectangle.

The exact dimensions are dependent upon how big you want

your tag to be. Mine were about 4"x2"

2. Next, snip the corners off of one and use it as a template for

the rest of your tags. Again, the style just depends on your preference.

3. Next, punch a hole unless you prefer to tape your

tag down but I wrote on the blank side of these.

4. Lastly, use spray adhesive to attach doilies to

give it that added cuteness factor!

A cute, inexpensive and time friendly

way to spruce up that special present!

Travis and I made homemade strawberry shortcake (minus the store bought cool whip) and it was YU-MMMMY! Ah-So good and well will TOTES be making it AGAIN!

Speaking of cool whip, or should I say "cool WHIP". .

Probably one of my favorite family guy scenes!

(once you get past the whole hair in the pie thing because hair in my food TOTALLY grosses me out)

This morning I stayed at home (instead of going to class) and me and Trav got up and made breakfast for each other and my family! We made heart shaped, pink dyed, pancakes! My mom and brother were kinda grossed out-but everyone else thought they were cute :)

Silly Starbucks Saturdays

OKAYYY who hasn't been to a Starbucks?!?!-if you haven't then you are probably a smart money saver, or have been living under a rock for the past decade. Considering there are TWO on SDSU's campus, I go there quite often (probably more than I really should). It was A LOT cheaper for me to gowhen I had a meal plan (which comes along with living in the dorms and you are allotted so much money per day depending on your plan). Now that I am living in an apartment, I don't go there quite as often but it's still a nice treat every once in awhile or when I need a pick me up after my 8 AM class (which happens EVERY.WEEK.DAY. except Fridays when I don't have class).

Anyways, where are you going with this Elise? I am a college student and I have had my fair share of Starbucks drinks and when I order a drink they ask my name so I say "Uh-Lease" and it is PRETTY HILARIOUS to see the spellings they come up with and even MORE HILARIOUS to hear the pronunciations of it when they are finished making it! I have been taking a picture (viamy iPhone 3g and now iPhone4) of every drink with the failed attempts at my name and so every Saturday I will be sharing a new way to spell my name-via a Starbucks drink :) Just something fun, different and interesting!

I think I told the barista my name and then after he started writing it I just told him the correct spelling (I guess I was feeling generous).

Backtrack and Rewind

With all the hustles and bustles of finals week at school and the holidays, I forgot to show you guys some of the cool stuff I managed to get done through all of that! Yes, I am surprised at myself for having [some] time to craft AND get good grades this last semester of school! WOO-GO ME :) Without further a do, here we go:

Good Luck Goodie Bags

I saw these puppies awhile back in the baking section of Michael's and knew I wanted to use them for my boys that race go-karts! What better than the biggest race of the year for them to make cute [err manly] little goodie bags to wish them good luck!

If you have never used pretzel molds before, they are SUPER DUPER easy! They come in all shapes and designs and end up being a BIG HIT! You just buy and melt the chocolate (which they usually have next to the molds in the stores) and then use chopsticks or a paint brush to add the chocolate to the molds, add your pretzel, cover with chocolate and throw in the refrigerator for an hour or so and TA-DA a cute and yummy snack!

I color coordinated them to their team colors!

Throw in a few other snacks, use paper crafting to make tags to wish them good luck, wrap them in cute wrapping and WAM-an easy and healthy snack/good luck bag for the event!

Frame Quick Fix

One of the many times I strolled through Ikea I picked up two of these frames just because I liked them! I really had nothing in mind when I bought them but figured they would come in handy some day. My friends birthday landed on the first day of the Super National's festivities and I remembered I had these frames so I made this the night before we left for Vegas! Just a little bit of paint, some bling, the good ol' trusty hot glue gun and you got yourself a custom cute frame!

PS: Michel, if your reading this, I have yet to give this to you--Im a slacker-- and I promise to bring it to the first race I go to! Happy Belated Birthday!

Memory Boards

I decided to make my little cousins each one for Christmas this year. They are really into girly stuff and color coordinating their rooms! These are pretty self explanatory but maybe one of these days I'll do a tutorial on them. They are pretty easy to make if you have the right tools and the possibilities are endless!

PS: Sorry for the horrible picture quality, I forgot my camera charger back at school and was in the process of wrapping these when I remembered I wanted to take a picture (hence the red and white wrapping paper in the background) so I opted for my iPhone.

Goodbye 2010, its been nice

January

Travis and his family throw a New Years eve party every year because they live about 2 blocks from the Rose Parade Route in Pasadena! Everyone always has a great time :)

February

Valentines day was so magical. The boyfriend surprised me with a romantic Valentine's day dinner in their family friends BEAUTIFUL backyard.

March

For my birthday, Travis and I spent the day on Coronado island browsing the shops, having lunch, walking on the beach and having fun in all the cute candy shops like little kids!

April

If it weren't for Bella(my cousin), we probably would not have decorated eggs in honor of Easter but I am glad we did because we had a blast :)

May

I finished my first semester of college with a bang! Travis spent the last night with me in my dorm room (mostly so I could have help packing and moving on out!) I pulled an all night-er studying for my organic chemistry final and he stayed up with me! We were a "little" tired the next day but had fun experiencing it :)

June

My Aunt got married-in VEGAS! The family had fun getting together and spending some time together!

July

This year my family went on a week long vacation to Pismo Beach, CA! We slept in the motor homes and were steps away from the beach and the cute little town. The boys surfed and the girls tanned and out of the whole experience, the most memorable was Travis taking on the pound and a half burger with all the fixing and side dishes! We had our own Man vs Food experience!

August

This time it was Travis' family on vacation. We headed down to the beach front house in Newport Beach, CA to spend time with his family and friends. We were only going to stay for the day (because I had just moved into my apartment in San Diego and was not quite settled in) but we ended up staying for a week!

September

I surprised myself by not adding (or mentioning) any racing, up until now. (I feel like my life and schedule revolves around racing but I managed to find time to do other things) My baby brother took the first step out of go karts and into these things-LEGEND CARS-! He didn't stay there long though, he decided he would rather race go karts (he got bored going in circles). It was a fun experience while it lasted!

October

What would be a year without Halloween?! We had fun hanging out with our friends from the go kart track on Halloween, and taking advantage of boyfriends blind-ness in one eye and dressing up like Pirates!

November

And the winner for Lisy's favorite photo of the year goes tooooo....

The one with her and Travis at the biggest go kart race in the world.

The supernats is the race most go-karters prepare for ALL year long! It is very intense and tempers fly but we managed to get passed that and the FREEEEZING cold weather for some good times. It was my room mates first time in Las Vegas and to a go kart race so we had to go browse the strip and meet all my friends from the track! Boyfriend ended up 9th out of 80-something karts! WAY TO GO!

My family decided it was a good time to take family pictures, so we did-in my grandmothers living room [VERY informal-but fun]

Cupcake stands!

As we all know, cupcakes are all the rage right now (YAY) and what better way to display them than a cute cupcake stand right? I have an easy (&& cute) way to display cupcakes with items you already have!

Start with a larger plate, stack a smaller (sturdier) cup upside down in the middle of the plate, add a smaller plate on top of the cup and repeat for each tier!

Easy-peezy ;)

In lieu of Susan's birthday, me and the boyfriend decided to make her cupcakes!
